Empty Corners: A Memoir

The survival of Lucy Gould and her mother in Nazi occupied Krakow contrasts the unknown fates of her brother and father, taken by the Nazis and never seen again. Migrating to Australia in 1951, the author then describes the typical migrant family experience: incomplete, compressed into small quarters with four other families, and trying to adjust to a new country, new customs and new life. All the while, Lucy chronicles the reclaiming of her Jewish identity, following years of being persecuted for it.
